One of the “White Villages” of the “Ruta de Toros ” between Ronda and Arcos de la Frontera. Jimena can trace it roots back to the Moors, Romans and as far as the Phoenicians, the attractive town stands at the eastern end of the “Parque Natural de los Arlcornocales” which stretches from Tarifa on the Atlantic coast to Cortes de la Frontera. Access from the north is via a spectacular landscape of forests of holm and gall oak giving way to pasture land set aside for the breeding of fighting bulls, within 30 minutes is the National Park of “Grazalema”. The Romans founded a settlement here called “Oba” the existing fortress above the village now has one of the largest original Moorish double horseshoe arches in Spain. The current municipality includes the villages of Jimena, San Pablo & San Martin; the local economy mainly based on agriculture has little changed over the years, cork is still cropped from the forests and there is an abundance of Orange & Avocado groves throughout the area.
